Social Media Coordinator Volunteer

Background information/context

If you are a social and outgoing person that likes to keep up the latest news and events, join our social media team. The social media team is Forager Foundation’s way to share our work with our followers and to achieve our mandate in the digital realm. Our volunteers support the work of the team lead by helping out with the day-to-day of Forager’s social media plan across our Blog, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.

Opportunities are available from Monday to Friday only, at our Vancouver office. There are no weekend volunteering opportunities. Volunteers usually donate four to eight hours per week, Monday to Friday, normally starting between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and then finishing between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. We try to place volunteers according to their preferences.

Overall purpose of the volunteer role

  • Assisting team lead with the day-to-day of Forager’s social media plan.

Main tasks of the volunteer role

 Tasks may include:

Writing, photography, strategic planning, and community outreach.

This role will suit volunteers with the following interests/qualities/experience

  • Some experience in social media
  • Some photography skills
  • Can work independently and part of a team
  • Ability to commit to a regular placement

Level of commitment/hours

For this role we are looking for volunteers who are willing/able to commit regularly to at least four hours per week on weekdays. Volunteers offered indefinite placements at Forager are encouraged to donate a minimum of twenty four volunteer days per year, inclusive of training/meeting time to be fully operational in a role.

Recruitment Procedure

Recruitment for this volunteer role is carried out when a number of placements become available – there is no set recruitment period during the year. Our aim is to find the right placement for each volunteer and to provide opportunities for a diverse range of people, so we do not recruit on a first come first served basis. We endeavour to place volunteers according to their preferences. During recruitment drives application forms held on file will be matched to the vacancy and those applicants whose availability and interests most closely match will be invited to Forager for an informal discussion. The purpose of the discussion is to explain in more detail the volunteering opportunities and to find out a bit more about why applicants would like to volunteer.
